Mandurah’s foreshore has something for everyone when the International Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup hits Action Sports Games for one exciting, fun weekend on 15 and 16 March.

Channel 7 Sunrise Presenter and Sports Commentator Mark Beretta hosted this morning’s Press Conference in Perth, attended by My Kitchen Rules contestants and World Champion Wakeboarders.

“The combination of the best food in the world and the best water sports action makes Mandurah one of the most magnificent venues in the world,” he said.

“You can easily see why the best water sports talents from all over the world come here.”

As the first stop of the 2014 International Waterski and Wakeboard World Cup Tour, over 70 of the world’s top water sport athletes will battle it out for a World Championship Title on the water of Mandurah’s Western Foreshore to a crowd of over 140,000.

International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation representative Des Burke-Kennedy is proud to return to Mandurah for the 39th World Cup stop.

“The concept in Mandurah is brilliant and the Action Sports Games is the biggest event in Australia, so being able to bring our World Cup here is ideal.”

“In all sports there are major superstars and we are delighted to have the top Wakeboard superstars with us in this World Cup Stop.”

Spectators can look forward to a tight contest between eight-time Wakeboard World Champion Raimi Merritt (USA) who returns from an ankle injury and 2013 Mandurah Wakeboard winner Bec Gange (AUS), who both take to the water on Saturday morning at 9:15 am for the Women’s Semi-final.

The unstoppable World Wakeboard Champion Harley Clifford returns to Mandurah for the fourth time after winning Melbourne’s Moomba Masters last weekend in front of a crowd of 200,000.

“I look forward to Mandurah every year as so many people come out to watch and there’s always so much to do,” he said.

“All of the world’s best Wakeboarders are here so its definitely going to be a great event with lots of crazy flips, tricks and spins to see.”

In addition to the water sports, pro Skateboard, BMX, FMX and Scooter athletes will descend on the Mambo Skate Park throughout the Action Sports Games weekend, adding more entertainment for people of all ages.

This free, weekend long event kicks off early Saturday Morning 15 March with the Women’s Jump Semi-final and the Women’s Wakeboard Semi-final.

The men will take to the water mid-morning for their Jump Semi-final before the Men’s Wakeboard Quarter-final starts in the afternoon.

All the Finals excitement takes place on Sunday 16 March, beginning with the Men’s Wakeboard last chance qualifier, which is followed by the Women’s and Men’s Big Jump Finals.

The waterski world continues to be dominated by six-time gold medalist Freddy Krueger (USA) who currently holds the record for a Jump of 75.2m.

Young Australian waterskier Jacinta Carroll will be the one to watch in the women’s league, after finishing 2013 with eight first places.

The Men’s Wakeboard Semi-final kicks off at after midday on Sunday, before the women take to the water for their Wakeboard Final at 2:30 pm.

The water sports will finish with a bang thanks to the Men’s Wakeboard Finals at 3:30pm, which will be a spectacle not to be missed.

The Channel 7 Mandurah Crabfest will delight everyone in the family over on the Eastern Foreshore with live cooking displays from My Kitchen Rules chefs, a jam-packed entertainment line-up, regional wine tastings, children’s entertainment and a spectacular fireworks display on Saturday evening.

Tourism Western Australia and the Department of Regional Development of Lands are proud to support the Action Sports Games Mandurah through the Royalties for Regions – Regional Events Program, which is administered by Eventscorp.
